Charlie Hodge, from Decaytor, AL., met Elvis whilst they were both in the Army in Germany. He remained a close personal friend to Elvis and was at Graceland when Elvis was found dead.
He appeared on stage at every single Elvis performance, passing him water, handing him scarves (to be thrown out to the audience), handing him lyric sheets and generally helping out. In addition, he sang harmonies on several songs and played acoustic guitar. During the band introductions, Elvis always referred to him as 'my friend.'
Since Elvis' death he made several personal appearances at the Memories Theatre in Tennessee. More recently he has suffered ill health following a triple heart bypass operation.
