Elvis seemed tired and moody during this show and seems to be out of breath throughout the show his breathing amplified with its proximity to his mouth. In the intro to I Got A Woman, he sings the opening line, "Well now..." then adds "That's what I feel. Really. See we had a late show last night and I only got two hours sleep so..." After the song he welcomes the crowd: "Good Afternoon. God that sounds strange, 'Good Afternoon'. I just got up!..." Just before introducing the band, Elvis reads a sign held up by someone in the audience."Please sing Return To Sender? Honey, if we know it." The riff, normally played during the band introductions then subtly changes beat and Elvis sings one verse of the song, to great applause. "I'm sorry but we hadn't rehearsed that too much." He is obviously conscious of his slightly slurry speech and goes overboard to correct a mistake in the introductions: "I'm gonna ask John to play the guitar on the back of his head. He can do that... I mean James! John. James, John, Matthew, Mark, Luke." James Burton quickly bursts in with his guitar. |
